Bearing accessories
Royal Singapore Bearing --67

As a complement to our bearings SKF supplies a wide assortment of bearing accessories like adapter sleeves, withdrawal sleeves and lock nuts.
Adapter and withdrawal sleeves are used to locate bearings with tapered bore on plain or stepped shafts. They facilitate bearing mounting and dismounting and, in many cases, simplify bearing arrangement design.
Lock nuts are used to locate bearings and other components onto a shaft or adapter sleeve and facilitate mounting and dismounting. SKF supplies a wide assortment of lock nuts. SKF lock nuts are easy to install, do not damage the shaft and provide effective locking.
Since seals and bearing housings are in separate sections, the accessories covered in this section include the sleeves and lock nuts used to locate and lock bearings in position on a shaft.

Lock nuts with a lock washer, locking clip or locking plate

These lock nuts are available in different series:

  • KM and KML lock nuts (fig. 1) have metric threads and use lock washers (fig. 2).
  • HM .. T lock nuts (fig. 1) have metric trapezoidal threads and use lock washers (fig. 2). For some sizes no lock washer is available, because these nuts are intended only for removal purposes.
  • HM and HME lock nuts (fig. 3) have metric trapezoidal threads and use locking clips (fig. 4).
  • N and AN lock nuts (fig. 1 and fig. 5) have inch dimensions.
Lock nuts with thread diameters ≤ 8 5/8 in. (size ≤ 44) use a lock washer (fig. 2).
Lock nuts with thread diameters ≥ 9 7/16 in. (size ≥ 48) use a locking plate (fig. 6).
Lock washers, locking clips and locking plates are simple, stable and reliable fastening elements which engage a keyway in the shaft or key slot in the adapter sleeve. The washer locks the nut in position when one of the washer tabs (tangs) is bent into one of the slots on the nut (fig. 7). Locking clips and locking plates are attached to the nut by bolts (fig. 8 and fig. 9
A locking clip consists of the clip, a hexagonal head bolt in accordance with EN ISO 4017:2011 and a spring-lock washer (fig. 4). A locking plate consists of the plate, two hexagonal head bolts and a wire (fig. 6).
The nut and the locking device must be ordered separately. The appropriate locking device is listed in the product tables. KM lock nuts can be locked either with the MB lock washer listed in the product tables or with a stronger, MB .. A lock washer (→ product table).
